Comments:

qxTHIEFxp – Coach, from my observation and from watching this breakdown, I would say that even though Tony Allen has some defensive issues, his teammates help him out. He is indirectly involved in a lot of steals or missed shots, by just playing with the Grizzlies and understanding how the team works as well as having trust in his teammates (hence why he gambles?). My point is that Tony Allen alone might not be 1st Team All-Defense, but playing with the Grizzlies grants him the 1st-Team recognition.

GoPro Highlights – This is absurd. Best outside defender and best 1on1 defender in the NBA

Zac Stone – When Kobe calls you the best defender he’s ever faced, I think it’s safe to say so

Iktomi – So he is not as good of a defender because he is not perfect in every play you look at in one game ok

TheBDHShow – So, basically, he’s first team all defense but not perfect?

jaysen rivera-lebron – whistled for illegal defense?

Samir Huq – This is retarded

Qi Meng – Let me ask the speaker this: Can you guard Stephen Curry? Can you play for NBA? Can you earn as much as Tony Allen do?

Remigiusz Tomasz – what a joke of a breakdown.

Weekend Warriors – I’ll have to say that for me, this video just highlighted Allen’s greatness defensively. It’s true that he often gets caught helping one pass away. He makes all kinds of errors in terms of defensive fundamentals. However, the one thing you can see him consistently doing is giving his all on every play. Most players use defensive situations as opportunities to rest, and Allen is out there going 100mph. You can see that the Warriors are feeling rattled and thrown off by his effort and intensity. Thompson missed several shots he would normally have drained. Against world class offensive players, even the best defense will not necessarily be effective, but if you can get inside your opponent’s head, you can give your team a fighting chance. The Grizz should not be able to hang with the Warriors at all, but they always put up a good fight. Tony Allen is easily deserving of the accolades he gets for his defense.

Quez Mania – Am I the only thinking who was the genius to put the mic on tony Allen instead of Gasol or Conley

Adan Villanueva – You’re a dumbass

Francisco Romaldo Mendes – I usually love your breakdowns but this video was rather disappointing for the following reasons:

Quez Mania – 1 on 1, there is no one better and he truly deserves a DPOY more than Kawhi Leonard. Leonard’s defense may be more overrated than currys overall ability. He locks up lebron and everyone goes crazy he gets shitted on by kd and no one even says anything about it. Tony Allen at 6’4 can guard any wing position but is overlooked because ….. face it he plays for Memphis no one pays attention to teams that are not located in Cali, New York (unless their winning 60 games)

Tommy Jay – the space in between your eyes is longer than the transcontinental railroad

Josh Polo hat – horrible break down

Firat Nacar – coach come on he is one of the best defender of all time

funcoland boi – so basically he does a good job being an irritant against golden state

vankov – u wrong man, it’s just because tony alen was there enemy team can get miss because they already known he is 1st team on defense …. lol

Tyler Germany – Tony Allen is so trash bruh&# 128514;&# 128514;

Kevin Moses – Has Coach Nick ever had anything complimentary to say about the grizzlies? They are always just lucky that other teams do not wipe the floor with them.

Joe Scott – I like your videos but u make a shitload of non points

Nolan Lamb – alot of your critcisms of him leaving his man on plays are very nit picky its as if you dont realize that he does it on purpose mos of the time to try an bait the passer into a steal and he almost always made up for it by getting back and doing a good job of contesting

himmie1 – All you need is to hear Kobe talk about his defense. This is madness

dragonblazer227 – tony allen be playing like me on offense lmao

Alex Dehaan – Tony Allen has been phenomenal in this series. Disappointed that you would choose to bring out a video clearly discrediting his work. If you wanted to do a video about game 2, surely it should be about how Tony Allen, Mike Conley and the Grizzlies forced the Warriors to shoot so poorly.

GoPro Highlights – Yes, he is first team all defense. He should be every year. Ive never seen someone play that hard and well on D.

Jiahua Cui – some of y’all just did not understand what the coach is saying. He’s saying Tony Allen is not that good of a defender in the Grizzlies defense system but 1 on 1 to any guards, he’s one of the best.

Yanhao He – Defending a shooter does not mean you have to stay close to him at every second. A smarter way is to observe the shooter’s performance tonight and then decide your defending strategy. If the shooter keeps missing you can allow him a few open looks and help the paint when necessary. Once he seems to be warming up you should apply more pressure and disturb his rhyme. Observing and predicting are essential parts of defence in the NBA. I do not think he should be blamed for those helping defensive plays.

Billy Bonilla – Yo great video as always. Love your channel, keep it up.

tyler barnes – I watched the first 6 mins and there was like maybe 6 points scored for the warriors. you just wasted a lot of time and made no sense. Do not quit your day job dude

Le Conte – Tony is a lock down defender, who knows how to play with his team.

Daniel Rutledge – You’re always nitpicking every little thing. Also to question that he is not a great defender you probably know nothing about defense. He plays excellent defense every game and is one of the top tier defenders in the league. He’s arguably has the best hustle in the game too.

jong bartolazo – bullshit

Major LeGrand – You showed more things in favor then against.

Eddie Amaro – yea.what is.he talking about? if a player is driving to the hoop, you are not supposed to help if you are one pass away? where did.he learn that from?

Kawhi MJ Leonard – Coach why you gotta knit pick everything he did? Give him some fucking credit he played a great game. I’m disappointed in you for making this video. If you’re going to make a video hating on Tony, make a video when Curry has an off night shooting. I love how you spent time making this video even though Tony Allen had a great game overall. You spent a good 5 minutes complaining about Tony Allen’s defense but did not show any of his good defensive plays ???

Salvador Garcia – I know stat wise other might be better … but this is mine.

fishballs93 – You were honest in this video Coach.

Julian Manley – Wow .. it’s crazy people find the bad … he a beast on D. enough said … Now find another player who plays D good as him .. nobody is perfect ….

airgordo4 – All your videos are so biased.

Samuel Bernardin – I wanna play on your team

Brandon Standifer – If we are talking about overall defense, then no Allen is not one of the 5 best in the league. But when it comes to just straight up sticking an offensive player 1 on 1, there is no one in the league I’d rather have than him, and that includes Kawhi

Maria Valdez – It’s easy to be an old fart and sit down on your computer and knit pick every minute detail of an overall great defenders game. Do not sit back and downplay a man’s game when you can not get on the court and do it yourself. Give credit when credit is due grandpa

Vasil Burnaski – I’d like to see your best shot at NBA level, mister know best

Jiovany Cintron Rivera – FIRST TEAM ALL DEFENSE

Shawn Johnson – Please do not breakdown this last bulls loss&# 128554;

project10bball – Hey coach nick this might sound odd but if I was coaching a team my policy would be near zero help defense

unknownagentm88 – I’m surprised u did not do breakdown on how Mike Conley went off on warriors with injured face lol

Choco Thunder – I see shades of Ron Artest on Tony Allen, especially the footwork lol …

Tristin2k – Perhaps his energetic and physical defense was wearing steph and klay out enough to where they were missing the shots they’d normally make. If that’s the case does that make of for some of the fundamental issues?

Noyze – Hey coach Nick, how do you feel about Allen now? He ate up Klay again in game 3, who appears to have an issue of confidence right now.

James "AbsoluteRooster" Lieschke – hey coach is there a way i can get this music?

Major LeGrand – Everytime someone misses, u say it was luck. Everytime you assume he made the wrong read it leads to a stop. Maybe your making the wrong read.

Ian Boland – Feel like this is a hate Tony allen video. Yes I’m a Memphis fan but imo he’s the best perimeter defender and gives his all and is he in the nba or are you? (I fully respect you your vids are great)

Dan Tee – i mean if Thompson is struggling shooting the ball then im helping one pass away all day and his presence alone on defense creates havoc for the other team so this dude needs to quit hating since hes probably the best, if not, one of the best defending guards in the association

King Calucha – Perfect defense does not exist, otherwise a defender would not allow a single point against. Tony Allen is still one of the top 5 on-ball defenders in the league, so a 1st-team recognition is at least debatable. I do not think it’s correct to draw conclusions from one game.

Adam Maund – Good analysis. However, one of the best ever (Kobe) did say that he is the toughest defender he has ever played against.

MVP GREEN – some of these points are debatable, as my opinion differs. he is easily 1st team all defense. my 1st team would be

Juneau Young – it’s time for the Grizzlies to find a legitimate 2 way shooting guard. Allen does more hurt than help at this point.

Crazed – My thoughts on who the 1st Team All Defense this year should be:

MrYoumitube – I would have Bogut, A, Davis, D.Green, Kawhi, Allan

Jt123 – Most of the time when the Grizzlies play against offensive juggernaughts like OKC GSW and the Cavs, they play a collapsing defensive scheme to allow no easy baskets. It’s kind of like the Bad Boy Pistons from back in the day except less aggressive. That’s why Tony Allen seems a little indisciplined on his close outs. He does that so that great offensive teams like GSW do not destroy them. I’m a Grizzlies fan because I live in Tennessee, therefore I watch every Grizzlies game of the season. This is just my opinion. I would love for someone to tell me otherwise. Feel free to argue with me.

rolky paul – Who in the NBA plays perfect defense bias video.

yeah_thatstaylored – Tony Allen IS the best on ball defender in the league. He is an above average off ball defender. When Tony is unorthodox with his defense the team benefits from it. Take this from a 9 year season ticket holder. He is first team because you do not see players across the league putting forth the effort he does on defense.

Carlo \ u0026 Karlo – Defense wins game. Memphis have great defense Gasol and Tony are two best defense players in nba today, but tony is more focused in defense than Gasol

jayvanity – Do you think LeBron’s an elite defender? People have been saying he’s not the same defensively

James Hardens Left Hand – Tony Allen vs Joe Johnson 1 on 1. Who would you pick to win?

MRIONLYMATTER – You would think he should be 1st team all defense he only has defense, he seems lazy, undiscipline, and not in good enough shape imo

Blocking Beast – This coach should know that 1 on 1 isolation defense is a tendency for Allen. He just has a hard time fighting through screens that’s all.

Errol Sinclair – Tony Allen is 1st team defense. this is one game. they are not missing shots just because they can not shoot. they are missing due to his presence. sometime in games things are moving so quickly that your perception on things are not what they should be .could be fatigue. but he’s def the best perimeter defender hands down. the fact this guy is using one game shocks me that’s like saying jay-z, Beyonce, Chris Brown shit or even denzel Washington. do not ever make bad music or have a bad performance. sometimes fatigue plays apart in execution

Kevin Samaran – First of all Coach Nick, I do not understand why you are talking of the offensive end issues of T.Allen whereas the topic of this video is all about him being in the 1st defensive team or not. Personally, I think should be in this Defensive 1st team, he’s one of the very rare defensive specialists in this league, and should have recognition for the energy he puts in the defensive end. As we can see in this video, it is very hard to defend on the best backcourt right now in the NBA, but stats do not lie: Thompson had an horrible game 2, and Allen played a big part in it. Very frankly, who deserves a spot in the SG / SF position right now? K.Leonard for sure, and after? J.Butler would deserve it too. N.Batum? Why not. Lebron is an OK defender, not more. Iguodala? not in the 1st this season. Well there are not plenty good defensive players in this league anymore. The thing is I think people who vote pay too much attention to the numbers, which do not show everything on the defensive end: Howard gets blocks, but is not that much a good defender. Defensive helps, defending correctly a screen, giving the opponent a bad position can not be seen on the stats, and too many people tend to forget it (sorry for my english)

Isreal Spear – This video is just so stupid. Like really. He’s a hell of a defender. Your breaking down literally every play. Nobody is perfect and that’s why it’s a team sport. His team helps him. He plays great defense and he is a All Nba defender. Maybe the best.

Blocking Beast – I bet this coach will not say nothing bad much about Allen’s defense much when he’s not getting screened and is just flat out winning on 1 on 1 isolation defense

Chris C – Playing defense is not about being perfect. You’re going to make mistakes. He has great instincts and amazing footwork and hands that are active enough to annoy defenders. Have you seen in the playoffs a few years back against KD? He’s arguably the best on ball defender in the league.

Josh Struble – Coach, I would argue that while it should not be this way, a star player’s reputation (for sake of argument, let’s consider a 1st team all-D a star) affects the calls. I’ll use Dwight Howard as an example.

Xavier Miranda – Is he first team all defense? I’m thinking Deandre Jordan, Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Allen and CP3? What other shooting guard is worthy over him?

32simas – I love Tony

Pj Williams – B ball break down us really good for hooppers like me because it really shows you how to play the game right

Roo goo – This video comes off as salty, nit picky, and strong hate for Tony Allen. Maybe Tony Allen is given free reign to help one pass away to cut off drives because the mans and beast and will shut down passing lanes. Yeah he loses his concentration off-ball once or twice, so what? He is relentless on defense for the other 90% of the time he’s on the court. He has the discipline and ability to just be GLUED to steph and klay running through screens, some guys have one or the other, not many have both.

Arzgar Hanti – And you want him to let Klay lose every single shot? The Irony.

IamEnigmaticQs – I say griz win this series, any thoughts?

Kawhi Duncan – damn you’re so annoying and u hate on everybody and talk as if u know everything, even like when someone gets traded and u think you the real fucking reason to why he was .. just shut up your videos and points are stupid and u come off as a fucking hater, tony did make 1 team all defense and rightfully so, one of the best perimeter defenders of his generations, u could ask all the big stars in the league !!

c.c.123 – Tony is the best defender in the league

Ryan Allen – FIRST-TEAM ALL-DEFENSE! another loser that never played the game.

Pharaoh Vito – FIRST TEAM ALL DEFENSE THIS VID DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING …. FIRST TEAM …

jdvsjohn – 2nd

John Barron – I think he’s experience doing enough to know these flaws in his game, coach. And if not, his coach has to have made him aware by now. But I think his defensive ability is a little bit about taking the right risks at the right time using instinct from having to cover the best perimeter players on the opposing team, whom you sometimes need to take risks, depending on sets, to cover anyway. Just a thought

Darryl Wallace – While watching the video I believe the only reason why Allen kept helping out on defense is because he saw that Klay and Steph were struggling from the 3 point line.

Zach Helton – Tony Allen is honestly one of my favorite NBA Players I loved when he played at OK State along with John Lucas that was the last time OSU made a final four appearance.

Alejandro Serrano – I know the Grizzlies have the best defense in these playoff right now but I do not like how physical they are and how the refs let them do that. They are always grabing other players shirts and holding their arms. They even hug them from time to time.

finisher3x – Never pegged Coach Nick as a hater.

qxTHIEFxp – Coach, from my observation and from watching this breakdown, I would say that even though Tony Allen has some defensive issues, his teammates help him out. He is indirectly involved in a lot of steals or missed shots, by just playing with the Grizzlies and understanding how the team works as well as having trust in his teammates (hence why he gambles?).
